ERRATA SHEET: CheatExams CompTIA A+ OS Prep for 220-222 Exam Tere Prasse, A+, CST, Network+, i-Net+, CIWA, CWPA, MCSA, MCSE (NT/W2K) NOTE: Many questions are repeated 2-5 times, and sometimes have different answers provided. The Key Points at the end of this document have not yet been reviewed for accuracy. Current date of review is 7/11/02. Question 1: Correct answer is A. Converting to FAT32 on a 2GB drive will typically gain about 300MB (about 15%) since the cluster size changes from 32KB to 4KB when converting to FAT32. Therefore, the simplest and easiest way to quickly gain the client enough space to operate is to convert to FAT32. The longer term fix is to acquire a larger drive. Question 8: Although C is the correct letter sequence, the command is not in the correct format. The correct format should be E:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons Question 19: Correct answer is D. Incremental backups backup all files with the archive bit on, it has absolutely nothing to do with an increase in file size per se (revising, including increase or decrease in size, a file does turn the archive bit on, however). Question 38: Correct answer is C. If you delete the KERNEL32.DLL, the only way to recover it is to reload it off the installation CD (reference MS Technet, Q146419). Typically KERNEL32.DLL errors are related to page faults which points in many cases to virtual memory problems (i.e., the swap file). In such cases, Microsoft recommends deleting the swap file (reference Technet), and the swap file will be recreated when the system is rebooted. Question 50: Correct answer is C. If the machine is set to use DHCP for acquiring a dynamic IP address and no DHCP server can be located, the machine will select an automatic IP address (169.254.x.x). Reference Microsoft Technet Q220874. Question 53: Correct answer is D. Windows NT 4.0 does not have a scandisk option (the corresponding NT command is chkdsk). Microsoft recommends that if a machine fails to load the OS after installing a device driver to use the LKGC (spacebar) on boot up. Question 72: There is no exactly correct answer; although, D is the closest to correct. Differential backups backup all files with the archive bit on, which means it is changed files from either the last full or last incremental (if an incremental was done subsequent to a full). Question 93: Correct answer is D. The System Configuration Utility in Windows '98 is used to disable system startup tasks (as long as some remnant of code remains). Reference SCU use in Microsoft Technet. The Scheduled Tasks utility is for just that, scheduled tasks. Question 95: Correct answer is A. Enabling File and Print Sharing does not in and of itself share any resources. The resources themselves must be shared in order to be available over the network. Since the scenario did not state that any resources had indeed been shared, the most likely problem is answer A. The document states D as the answer; if this is the case, the computers without FPS enabled could not "see" other computers on the network in Network Neighborhood -- the scenario given does not state this to be the case. Reference Microsoft Technet Q192534. If you look back at Question 59 in this document, it talks about FPS and network browsing as well. Question 100: The figure shows the screen area already set at 800x600. Obviously given the question and the answers, the figure should show a 640x480 screen area. Question 118: Correct answer is B. There is no such thing as a printer "palette." The Printer Applet is used to capture printer ports. Question 137: The correct answer is D. Beginning with MS-DOS 5, the scandisk command was available and preferred over chkdsk. The correct command for a surface scan would be scandisk [drive] /surface Question 140: The best, but not precisely correct answer is B. Since batch files, including autoexec.bat, can contain valid MS-DOS commands that can be executed from a command prompt, the answer given (C) is incorrect. Prompt and Path are two commands frequently contained in autoexec.bat that also run from the command prompt. Probably the closest (or best answer) is B because there are very few commands that cannot technically be executed from the command prompt. Question 144: Correct answers are A & D. The answers given (B, C, & E) will NOT create a new folder. Besides, the question states "which two." Question 146: No correct answer is listed. While answer D is correct in that refreshing the desktop is what needs to be done, Shift+F8 is not the correct command to do this -- the command is F5. Reference MS Technet Q126449, Keyboard shortcuts for Windows. Question 153: Correct answer is B. In this scenario, Windows 2000 will indeed recognize the device and automatically install the default drivers. There is no need to shut the PC down, and in most cases with Windows 2000, it will not even be necessary to reboot the machine after the driver is installed. Reference MS product documentation for Windows 2000. Question 162: While the answer listed is correct, there is no such thing as a "/B2" switch. The correct switch to install without using floppies in NT 4.0 is "/B" Question 175: The question asks for two methods. A second method would be answer D. Question 178: Correct answer is given, but it is in improper format. The correct format should be C:\windows\system\command.com Question 241: Correct answers are A, B, & E. The answers given include IPCONFIG, which cannot be used to lookup IP addresses of known domain names. The correct answer instead should be NSLOOKUP which is very commonly used to query domain records from name servers (DNS). Question 247: Correct answer is D. When files are removed from the Recycle Bin, the FAT entries are simply removed; there are sweep utilities that actually erase the files. Question 251: Correct answer is C. CD-ROMs loaded via config.sys will not appear in device manager. The win.ini is used to support 16-bit applications in Windows. Reference MS Technet. Question 269: Correct answers are B and E. SMTP is used to send e-mail, not receive it. Question 270: Correct answer is D. See comments on question 72. The difference between incremental and differential is in how the archive bit is treated after the file is backed up; incremental resets the archive bit and differential does not. Question 300: While you can reach Safe Mode through F8, you would use F5 to go directly into Safe Mode. Question 302: Correct answer is A. The commonly accepted order is FDISK, FORMAT, and reboot. Question 303: Correct answers are B & C. There is no such thing as SYSPAD. Question 310: Answer E is also correct. Question 314: Correct answer is D. See comments on question 72. Question 328: Correct answer is C. See comments on question 38. Question 331: Correct answer is C. See comments on question 251. Question 337: Correct answer is C. See comments on question 50. Question 340: The second (questions asks for two answers) answer is B. Question 353: Correct answer is D. These are examples of power options. Question 354: Correct answer is D. See comments on question 72. Question 363: No correct answer; although you do want to refresh the desktop. The command is F5. Question 382: Correct answer is D. See comments on question 137. Question 393: Correct answers are A, B, & E. The client, protocol and adapter must be configured. Resource sharing is done under service, and is not an absolute requirement to implement a network (it is required to share resources over the network). Question 401: Correct answer is given, but it is in improper format. The correct format should be C:\windows\system\command.com Question 410: The question asks for four answers to be selected. The four correct answers are A, C, E, & F. Question 414: Answer B should have the CTRL+SHIFT and ESC shortcut keys. Answer E should have the CRTL+ALT+DEL shortcut keys. Question 426: Correct answer is ALT + TAB. See Windows keyboard shortcut keys. Question 427: Correct answers are A, D, & E. Converting to FAT32 does not reduce system resources per se. It does however increase disk efficiency for disks under 2GB due to reduced cluster size. Question 447: The question asks that two answers be selected. The second answer is E. Question 455: Correct answer is A. See comments on question 1.
